Qantas goes carbon neutral

(ClimateRadar.com) The Qantas Group today launched a Carbon Offset Program, backed by a pledge to offset the carbon emissions of every international and domestic Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar flight. “Qantas will pay to offset the equivalent of approximately 40,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases associated with these flights, with the money to be used to plant and maintain around 90,000 Mallee Eucalyptus trees across Australia in an agreement with CO2 Australia,” Mr Dixon said.

UK Houses will miss zero carbon target

(ClimateRadar.com) National Housing Federation chief executive David Orr warned that the Government is in danger of missing its target to ensure all new homes are zero carbon by 2016. Speaking at the Federation annual conference, at the ICC in Birmingham, Mr Orr revealed that while 92% of housing association new homes are already meeting minimum sustainable standards only 2% of new homes built by private developers do so.

Credit card aiming to fight climate change

It is a credit card with a green twist — instead of getting points or airline miles for dollars spent, a percentage of purchase charges will be invested in efforts to advance renewable energy. New company launches CarbonPassport

Like its competitors, Carbon Passport has a website with an online calculator that allows individuals and businesses to measure their emissions. Offsets can also be bought online. However, the firm sells only CERs – certified emission reductions. These are credits produced by carbon-saving projects – mostly in the developing world – regulated by the United Nations.
